Do You Have Questions About Kybella™? Dr. Smith has the Answers!

smith-kybella-imageSince its release last year, Kybella has taken the cosmetic industry by storm. Highly innovative, Kybella is the first and only injectable treatment that has been approved by the FDA to specifically target excess submental fat. Like many others, Dr. Smith has seen an overwhelming demand for Kybella at his Edina practice.

What is Kybella?

A formulation of deoxycholic acid, Kybella mimics a naturally occurring molecule found within our own bodies that naturally breaks down and absorbs fat cells. When injected, Kybella destroys individual fat cells before the body naturally eliminates and expels them (*).

Why choose Kybella?

According to a study published by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, 68 percent of respondents were unhappy with excess fat under the chin and around the neck. Colloquially known as a double chin—the presence of submental fat can be very upsetting to many of Dr. Smith’s patients. Kybella effectively slims the chin and neck area without the need for invasive surgery.

What is the Kybella treatment like?

At around 30 minutes, Kybella treatments are a quick, in-office “lunchtime” procedure. By starting with a topical numbing cream, Dr. Smith ensures that your Kybella treatment is as comfortable as possible. Once completed, you are free to return to your day.

Although you may notice a difference after only one treatment, Kybella is meant to be performed as a series. On average, most of Dr. Smith’s patients need between two to four treatments with some needing up to six Kybella treatments. Fat is destroyed effectively, safely and gradually (*).

Are there any risks with Kybella?

When administered by a highly trained professional, Kybella is relatively risk free. Minimally invasive, Kybella has little to no side effects. However, as with any injectable procedure, there is a chance for residual bruising, swelling, and lingering tenderness. Most men and women find that this subsides within a few days to one week (*).
