There is always an air of excitement when the American Society of Plastic Surgery releases its yearly statistics. With each passing year, one trend is clear—the ever-growing popularity of cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures. In 2015 alone, more than 14.2 million men and women underwent some form of minimally-invasive cosmetic treatment. Perhaps even more astounding, over the past fifteen years, statistics show an overall increase of 158 percent.
Long been a favorite of both men and women, injectable treatments reign king and queen—taking not only the first spot but also the second. With nearly 6.8 million procedures, Botulinum Toxin Type A injectables by are far in first. Injectable treatments, like Botox, continued popularity is clearly reflected, showing a 759 percent increase since the year 2000.
With a steady increase of six percent, soft tissue fillers followed in second with over 2.4 million procedures—an increase of 274% in the last fifteen years. While a number of fillers fall under this category, those made up of made-up of hyaluronic acid (HA), like Juvederm, are by far the most popular. Out of the 1.9 million treatments performed, HA fillers encompassed 80 percent of all soft tissue fillers.
It has to be noted that 2015 was the first year that facelift surgery did not rank in the top five cosmetic surgical procedures. No doubt, this is an effect of more and more men and women choosing non-surgical treatments instead of surgical solutions. An example of this is Kybella, an injectable fat-blaster that can greatly minimize one of submental fullness without the need for surgery, incisions, or downtime.(*)
